Foster care is a system in which a minor has been placed into a ward, group home, or private home of a state-certified caregiver, referred to as a "foster parent" or with a family member approved by the state. The placement of the child is normally arranged through the government or a social service agency. The institution, group home or foster parent is compensated for expenses unless with a family.
Marco Tomat, a long standing treatment provider executive, gives his insight on the current Foster Care system to help give the community information on perspective of the Foster Care System, as well as, advocate for change based upon his experience working in the system.
Also, Marco gives his opinion of Value-Based Contracts. He believes it is the beginning of a good system ;however, his view on the beginning stages of the system is insightful.
Marco believes the Foster Care system needs more funding to equip caretakers with, " Therapeutic Foster Care," resources in order to help fill the gap from short term fixes with long term support needed for children. Thousands of children are currently in the system and need help, especially now more than ever due to the drug crisis.
